The Lucie Awards

I am still in recovery from the late Wednesday night jaunt to New York City.  I don't do going till 3 AM well, and I am still feeling hungover from lack of sleep. The organization Larry has worked for the past 17 or so years,  "The Center for Photography" was awarded a Lucie Award which was presented at Lincoln Center. I knew it was going to take a feat of mightiness to make it with my schedule, and I did not want to go.  More stress. But when I saw Larry's face when I insinuated that it was OK if he went without me, I bit my tongue and just moaned for a few days about how difficult it was going to be to pull this off, and about how I was not going to be able to wear my little black cocktail dress because I have no pretty shoes that my feet/ankle will tolerate trekking thru NY.  The Metro North ride along the Hudson River is beautiful in any weather, so I shot many photos on the way down. A Night From Hell

It has been a rough start to the weekend. Larry has an infection from a cracked tooth beneath his cap, and has to go to the oral surgeon on Monday. So he has been in bed all day, and sick and groaning. I make a very very bad nurse, as I have no patience for groaners, but have done my best to be kind and made a humongous pot of chicken soup for him to eat. I am going to go upstairs to watch either Rivers and Tides, or Titus with him. I did my own dentist thing yesterday, but my check up was great save for a tiny cavity near an old filling that has to be redone. Then I went to Rhinebeck to have my hair "enhanced" a bit. Before Lois did my hair, I took a few of my Canadian aspirin that I smuggled in to the country (the ones that have some codeine in them with aspirin and caffeine) as I was having a really nasty ache in my shoulder. I don't remember injuring it, sort of like my last shoulder injury which took 2 years to heal, and I don't want to go through THAT again. ...

The Gift

Several times last night while writing my blog, Larry came downstairs from the Netherlands and asked: "are you coming up?". I issued my typical curt answer: "when I am done." I answered this question a few times...but it's OK, it is part of the routine mating dance that we perform with love, grace, and at times, brevity. Finally, after summoning enough energy to write a few emails and a few thoughts on the blog, I headed upstairs. I performed my typical night regime; pee, brush my hair, brush my teeth, brush the hair on my teeth, (I know, b a d Patti...) and entered the bedroom. Larry is in bed, and smiling. I begin to slough off my painting clothes; a much loved and lived in t-shirt, and my favorite pair of feels-great-to-do-anything in jeans - the haute couture of my introvert art world. I look on the bed, and there is a bag. "Garbage?" I ask him quizzically. He laughs. I see that in the bag is tissue, and that it is a present. "Because yo...
